Get Involved
We welcome volunteers from all religions, or affiliations, and you do not need to be a church member to get involved. Please fill out the volunteer interest form to let us know how you would like to help, and someone from our volunteer committee will contact you directly with next steps. Brief descriptions of our various committees are listed below.
WE ARE IN HIGH NEED OF DARI AND FARSI SPEAKERS
Housing Committee
The Housing Committee collaborates with HIAS-NY and works with families both pre- and post-arrival to secure and furnish housing and help orient the family to the culture of their new home.
Employment Committee
The Employment Committee identifies potential job opportunities and professional networks for family members and assists them with job applications, resume writing, mock interviews, and other career needs.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee is responsible for communicating internally and externally about Brooklyn Neighbors for Refugees.
Community Connections Committee
The Community Connections Committee provides welcome materials, meals after arrival, and material items necessary for beginning a new life in New York City. The committee also assists families with neighborhood and transportation orientation and identifies culturally relevant connections that further facilitate integration into their new community.
Education Committee
The Education Committee identifies English language classes for adults, as needed. They assist with school and daycare enrollment and help children adjust to new educational environments.
Financial Committee
The Financial Committee fundraises and helps secure the financial commitment required to successfully resettle refugee families in New York City. The committee also provides financial advice to resettled families, as appropriate.
Health Committee
The Health Committee supports families in navigating the healthcare system, including securing health providers and coverage to access care. The Committee works with HIAS-NY staff to schedule doctors appointments and advocates for individuals and families as needed.
